Instagram was part of my life in late 2012, back then no one I knew really understood what it was never mind how to use it. Little did many know, this photo-sharing app would become the platform it is today and a monetisation channel for bloggers like me.
I needed to find my theme; my aesthetic. I’d admired many accounts over the years, they all looked so cohesive, I’d scroll through my newsfeed and would instantly know that it was from such and such a blogger because of the posts’ visual identity.
A year after starting the blog, a lot of trial and error I finally feel that I’ve got there. Of course, it’s an evolution but I do feel happier that my Instagram feed is where I want it to be.
I get a lot of questions about how I edit my photos so I thought I’d share my favourite apps and the specifics functions that I love about them…
It’s crazy to think that it’ll soon be the first birthday of iambecca.com. It’s a project that I wanted to get off the ground long before it launched; as I’ve said before, the biggest hurdle for me was finding the confidence to put myself out there. Once the blog had launched it was a case of figuring out how to juggle it with a demanding full-time job; definitely something I’d underestimated.
Drawing on my experiences over the last year I’ve come away with a lot of learnings. I’ve put this post together as an updated version of a post I wrote last year – Blogging: What I’ve Learnt This Year. So, if you’re reading this and you’re a part-time blogger my wins and fails may help you in some way or if you’re just perusing this post and want a little insight into what we bloggers do, read on…
Starting a YouTube channel was definitely a daunting prospect but it was one which I felt was a natural extension of my blog. As I mentioned in a recent blog post, Blogging: What I’ve Learnt This Year the main hurdle that needed ‘jumping’ in order to start a blog and now a YouTube channel was self doubt. The time off to reflect on my year over Christmas and being invited to join RewardStyle in December gave me the confidence to take the next step and leap into the world of vlogging!
So, here is my first ever vlog which was voted by my Instagram followers to be a ‘Get To Know Me’ video answering all your questions about me and how I became a blogger. I’m aiming to post a video every week talking all things style, beauty and travel.
I’d toyed with the idea of starting a blog long before it launched. For me the biggest hurdle to overcome was putting myself out there and being open to criticism from friends, colleagues and the people who would stumble across my blog. My immediate thoughts were “I’m afraid to fail” and “What if people don’t like it?” and “Am I qualified to write about this type of content?” Essentially I had a lot of self doubt. This all stopped when I had a conversation with one of my best friends about putting those doubts aside and that I was starting this blog for me as it was something I would enjoy and hopefully something that could add value to others too. This time last year I read two brilliant books that really spurred me on to start, the first being Capture Your Style and the other was The Million Dollar Blog – I highly recommend them both if you’re wanting to start a blog or improve your Instagram! Putting my insecurities into a box and reading those two books gave me the oomph to give it a go. A few months later iambecca.com was borne!
The last eight months have by no means been straightforward so I thought i’d share some of my highs and lows and what i’ve learnt this year…
