Being the skincare junkie that I am, 2018 has been another year of trying out new products, beauty techniques, and trends. But, what has worked and what hasn’t? Well, I thought I’d do the hard work for you and round up the 5 top tips that I’ve learnt this year. If you’re into clean skincare and you’ve also got sensitive skin like me, you’ve come to the right place.
Reducing Stretch Marks
I’ve had stretch marks on my inner thighs since my late teens. I’ve never been overweight so after some further research, it was most likely down to puberty. For a long, long time they made me extremely conscious going darker in the Summer after UV exposure meaning that I rarely got my legs out. This year however I learnt about a handy hack. The hack? Slather them in suncream, factor 50 during the day and at night apply a topical product that helps to even out skin tone. I’ve been using a combination of Bio-Oil and the Energy Bank Body Makeover from This Works.
Combat Breakouts Caused By Sweat
I’ve been going to the gym a lot more lately. With my wedding coming up this Summer I thought it was a great opportunity to get back into a good exercise routine. Whilst I feel a helluva lot better for it; boosted energy levels, less anxiety and a pair of baby biceps coming through I have noticed that I’ve been breaking out a little more than usual. This is to be expected though because sweating can irritate the skin and cause the ugly blighters to appear. My tip? Apply a product with Salicylic Acid post-gym. It’s an ingredient that breakouts hate and will quickly dimish them with regular use. I opt for the Evening Detox Spray-On Exfoliant or the Salicylic Acid 2% serum from the Ordinary.
Acid For Smooth Skin
To maintain super smooth skin I’ve been incorporating an AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) into my routine every week. They minimise the appearance of wrinkles, gently exfoliate and help to even out skin tone. But, what products should I use I hear you ask? Try the Ready Steady Glow or the Glycol Lactic Radiance Mask from Ren Skincare.
Cut Back On The Booze
I’ve never been a big drinker, but I have seen a noticeable difference in my skin when I cut down on my intake. Alcohol dehydrates the skin which in turn cause wrinkles and inflame the tissue. Ever noticed that your skin’s a little pink the morning after a night out? Well, that’ll be why. Now I’m not saying you need to go teetotal, but even one less serving of alcohol a day will help to improve you skin’s appearance.
Apply Your Products In The Right Order
It’s important to apply the skincare products in the right order so that they deliver the results you’re investing in. This year, I learnt from a dermatologist that you should apply from thinnest to thickest. For example, apply a hydrating mist post-cleansing, pop on a lightweight serum then your moisturiser. Finally, before stepping out for the day apply an SPF product that protects your skin against UVA and UVB rays.
So, there you have it, my 5 top skincare tips which I’ve learnt in 2018.
