How I Tackle Blocked Pores

On the whole, my skin has behaved over the last 5 or so years. I was fortunate that I didn’t suffer from hormonal acne like some of my friends, just getting the occasional whopper (and I mean whopper!) every now and again. Whilst spots have not really been an issue, blocked pores have, sounds kind of icky, right?  My key issue is blackheads, on my chin, my nose and occasionally my cheeks. From makeup to SPF to pollution it all gets stuck in there, making my skin irritated and lackluster. That’s why I was incredibly excited to be gifted a skincare routine from Balance Me that’s specifically designed to tackle congested skin. So, I thought I’d share my initial thoughts after trying it over the last few days…

Step One – Pure Skin Face Wash

This was one of the products that I’d used before so I was confident that it would deliver. It’s a sulphate-free wash off cleanser made with calming Aloe Vera and anti-bacterial Bitter Orange. After gently massaging it into damp skin it instantly removes makeup and SPF whilst also balancing excess Sebum. Sebum is an oily substance produced by the Sebaceous Glands. When Sebum is produced in excess it can lead to breakouts and congestion. These glands are prominent on your face, especially the forehead (ever noticed that mid-afternoon shine?) and chin. This cleanser is a sure fire way to purify, balance and refresh the skin morning and night. It gently cleanses the skin without stripping the skin’s natural protective barriers to leave it feeling soft and radiant.

Step Two – Congested Skin Sheet Mask

I’m pretty new to sheet masks, I’ve probably used them a handful of times so I was intrigued to try their latest product out. The three things that were so appealing about this mask were that it is Vegan, sustainable and biodegradable! So, what does it do exactly? Well, this black bamboo charcoal sheet draws out and absorbs impurities. After unfolding it from the packet I popped it onto my face and watched Netflix for 20 minutes whilst the natural actives got to work.

Once removed and massaging the excess product into my skin I could instantly see that my skin was more radiant. Zinc PCA, balances my skin, reducing the secretion of Sebum, whilst Hyaluronic Acid hydrates and plumps. Witch Hazel reduces any skin redness and Allantonin soothes and moisturises. I must say that it was pretty blissful.

Step Three – Congested Skin Serum

When I did the whole routine a second time round, I layered the Congested Skin Serum underneath the sheet mask. Made with Spruce Knot and Kanuka Essential Oil the serum helped to diminish my skin inflammation. It’s a daily treatment that’s packed with goodness and has visibly reduced the appearance of blackheads – woop!

Step Four – Balancing Face Moisturiser

The final step is this lightweight moisturiser that’s rich in fatty acids, vitamins, and anti-oxidants. Designed to smoothe and soothe, it also minimizes spots and blemishes. With radiance boosting ingredients such as Bergamot Oil my skin looked glowy and healthy once the routine was complete.

So, there you have it, the latest products that I’ve welcomed into my skincare routine. After only a few days of use, I’ve seen a real difference in my skin; it’s vibrant, glowy and fresh. Living in a polluted city is hard on my skin, combining that with makeup and SPF use means that I’ve got to make every effort to keep my skin decongested. These Balance Me skincare products will be sure to make a difference to my skin this Autumn.
