My everyday style is all about comfort. It’s neutral, relaxed and provides a great foundation for adding pops of colour and statement accessories. I’m not someone who lives and dies by what the catwalk reports and magazines are telling me is ‘cool’ but I do like to buy trend-lead pieces as long as they’re both functional and comfortable. On a daily basis, I combine high-end and high-street, making sure that those investment pieces are timeless so that they’ll last season after season. When shopping I specifically look for wardrobe essentials that’ll easily slot in with existing items in the knowledge that I don’t have to re-invent the wheel each time I create a look.
So, with that in mind, here is a look at my everyday Winter style and the pieces I rely on to keep me warm, comfortable and confident…
Prince of Wales check has been the hero pattern of the last couple months. Its neutral hue means that it has maximum versatility so you don’t need to worry about it conflicting with the rest of your look. I love the architectural silhouette of this jacket from Miss Selfridge. The double-breasted design and soft lapels mean that it’s perfect for layering and ideal for wearing to work.
The Layering Piece
If I know that I’ll be inside for most of the day I will opt for lighter layering pieces so I’ll switch up my chunky knits for a body-skimming roll neck top. I opt for it in black as it works perfectly with check and tucked into denim.
If you buy one pair of jeans this Winter make it a pair of Mom jeans. They’re the ultimate outfit building block for any look no matter the season. High-waisted and straight-cut they are just so damn comfortable. Tuck your top in and they help to accentuate the waist or play with proportions and style them with a boxy knit. My pair from Topshop will be with me all year round.
When I’m looking to invest in high-end pieces they’re invariably accessories; shoes and bags are definitely my ‘thing’. If people ask how much I spend on them I do get a few odd looks. However, I know that I’ve not purchased them irresponsibly, but strategically. By purchasing good quality pieces in versatile colours I know that they’ll be a timeless addition to my wardrobe meaning that the cost per wear will be minuscule.
This is only a teeny tiny insight into how I dress on a daily basis. For me, it’s all about having a core base of pieces that I can then add to when a new season comes around.
