My Party Ready Beauty Essentials

My New Year's Eve Make-Up

With New Year’s Eve coming up this weekend I’ve planned ahead and have two dress options available; unsurprisingly they’re both from Self Portrait! With my outfit sorted, it’s now time to think about my make-up look so that I feel my best for the long night ahead! I search for products that’ll last the night; that means a long-lasting lipstick that’ll stay put for more than a glass of Champagne and a foundation that won’t budge after spending most of the night on the dance floor. So, here are my fail safe New Year’s Eve essentials that are high impact and hard wearing…

I opt for a mascara that builds volume because quite frankly I can’t be bothered to apply false lashes; they never look good on me and they’re pretty irritating. Charlotte Tilbury’s Legendary Lash mascara builds the longest and most luscious lashes I could possibly wish for. Apparently 13 times more volume! The best thing about this mascara is that whilst it will guarantee the false lash effect it won’t clump and will last all night long.

I’m not one for eyeshadows so I love to wear a bold lip instead. NYX is a brand i’ve been obsessed with since it launched; a cheaper alternative to MAC. This matte lipstick in Whipped Caviar is a highly pigmented deep pink with serious staying power. The texture is creamy so it glides on smoothly for all night colour.

A little bit of eyeliner goes a long way and NARS has created the most fabulous kohl pencil that i’ve used in years. It’s a long–wear eyeliner so perfect for New Year’s Eve and it’s completely smudge–proof; just the ticket! The pencil is sleek, featuring a built–in sharpener for extra precision. A dash of this on the upper and lower lids of my outer eye and i’m good to go!

I’ve raved about this concealer since I purchased it for the first time in October. Why am I so obsessed you ask? It’s a new type of formula containing elastic micro waxes that move with your face instead of the traditional cover up that is stiff and dry. The finish is perfection; dewy and glowing to cover up blemishes, dark circles and my hangover in the morning.

Hair Straightners

I wouldn’t class myself as a ‘hair person’ in that i’m not that great at styling it. On night’s like this I resort to my trusty GHD straighteners to keep my hair in check.

Eyebrow Wand

This is a total game-changer and a product I now can’t live without. Being blonde and having patchy, sparse eyebrows makes Glossier’s Boy Brow a magic wand for my face. The creamy wax formulation means that with one brushstroke my face is framed for the night ahead. Unlike traditional eyebrow products it doesn’t leave the hair feeling stiff.

God bless the lady in Space NK who introduced me to this beauty of a primer. Kiehl’s lightweight micro-blur skin perfector instantly refines the appearance of the skin’s texture and minimises the appearance of pores meaning that when I apply my foundation on top it’ll glide on smoothly with my skin looking as if it’s been airbrushed – wonderful! The best thing about it is that it’s non-comedogenic so it won’t block my pores.

My skin is patchy and red at the best of times so I rely on Chantecaille’s Future Skin Foundation to ensure a smooth make-up base. The formulation is a water-based gel that provides lightweight coverage. It also has light-reflecting particles so that my skin will look fresh all night long.

I read somewhere that this is the number one bestselling blush ever and I can definitely see why. I’ll apply this in ‘Orgasm’ onto the apples of my cheeks for natural, healthy-looking colour. The texture shimmers just enough to ensure that my skin looks the best it possibly can.

This soft focus highlighter from Becca Cosmetics subtly illuminates and perfects, without a trace of sparkle because glitter is just too obvious on New Year’s Eve. The Shimmering Skin Perfector is incredibly lightweight with gorgeous ingredients such as vitamins A, B, D and E. I go for the colour ‘Moonstone’ as it complements my skin tone whilst also enhancing and diminishing skin dullness.

Finally, I mustn’t forget to polish my paws. I go for OPI’s Upfront and Personal as the metallic will work perfectly with the dress I choose on the night!
